High valley transit stands at a transformative juncture as it advances its ambitious bus rapid transit initiative, a project designed to recalibrate the very rhythms of mobility within the Park City region. Executive Director Caroline Rodriquez has confirmed that the first phase of construction is on course for completion by October, with crews laboring through the night to remove medians and install fibre preparatory measures that will compress the project timeline into a mere two construction seasons. By sequencing work in this manner, HVT deftly minimizes disruption for daily commuters while laying the groundwork for a more efficient, sustainable transit future.
The undertaking, which includes the widening of State Route 224 by ten feet from Kimball Junction to Thaynes Canyon Drive, will resume its next phase in April 2026. Beyond the utilitarian expansion of roadways, however, the project carries a symbolic weight: it represents Park City’s commitment to harmonizing infrastructure with the evolving demands of its citizens and visitors.
On September 25, the Park City Council will receive a detailed update, with particular emphasis on the design specifications for a new stop at the intersection of Thaynes Canyon Drive and Snow Creek Drive.
Equally significant are the proposed refinements to the so-called Box of Rocks intersection, a notorious nexus where Park Avenue and Deer Valley Drive converge. HVT envisions an additional left-turn lane on Park Avenue to alleviate congestion, coupled with a new through-or-right-turn lane on Deer Valley Drive, empowering westbound drivers with greater navigational choice. These changes, though technical in their particulars, embody a broader ethos: the conviction that intelligent design can reconcile growth with liability.
As Park City balances its historic charm with modern exigencies, the BRT initiative emerges not merely as a transportation project, but as a civic covenant a promise to engineer a future where movement is as seamless as it is sustainable
